Board, opening and the objective of the game
Backgammon is played by 2 players, who each receive 15 checkers of 2 different colors. In the picture you see the board. The lowest right side is the home field of white, the highest right side is home of brown. The board consists of 4 fields, each divided in 6 points. The so-called bar divides the right and left sides of the board.
The players have to bring their checkers into their home fields. The arrow in the picture indicates in which direction white's checkers must move. The checkers can be moved forward only. If all checkers of a player are in the home field, he may begin to bear them off. The player, who bears all of his checkers off first, wins the game.
